Revolutions and Political Transformations

Students will study the French Revolution, the rise and fall of Napoleon, and the revolutions of 1848. This section explores the emergence of nationalism, the unification of Germany and Italy, and the ideological shifts that shaped modern European states.

War, Empire, and the 20th Century

The second section focuses on Europe’s involvement in global conflicts, including World War I and II. Students will analyze the causes and consequences of these wars, as well as the rise of totalitarian regimes. The impact of European imperialism and the decolonization movements of the mid-20th century will also be examined.

European Integration and Contemporary Challenges

The course concludes with a study of post-war reconstruction, the Cold War, and the formation of the European Union. Students will explore challenges such as migration, economic crises, and political polarization, critically assessing Europe’s role in an increasingly globalized world.
